Kaliasot River Rally Unites Volunteers for Conservation and Revival
A large group of environmental enthusiasts gathered this week for the Kaliasot River rally, aiming to clean and protect the waterway. The event focused on creating a long-term plan for conservation, rejuvenation, and sustainable water management along the river’s 22-kilometre stretch. The rally started at Kaliasot’s 13 gates, where participants collected waste from the river. Their goal was to develop a practical and technical strategy to stop the river from drying up in summer and maintain a water depth of 3 to 4 metres.
Experts like Ashok Mishra (IAS), AK Vishwakarma, Pawan Sahitani, and Uday Roman led surveys and discussions. They proposed drafting a blueprint for beautifying the left bank, mapping sewage discharge points, and ensuring high water levels in nearby wells and stepwells. Ideas were also shared for a cycling track, walking plaza, green corridor, and relaxation zone along the right bank. To support these efforts, local builders are being urged to install rainwater harvesting systems. Additionally, preparations are underway for a large-scale tree-planting drive across the entire riverbank.
The action plans from the rally include both immediate and long-term measures. These involve waste removal, water conservation, and infrastructure development to protect the Kaliasot River. The proposals aim to secure the river’s health and improve public spaces along its banks.
