Kalyan-Dombivli launches bold plan to revive Waldhuni River and ease traffic chaos

The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has stepped up efforts to rejuvenate the Waldhuni River. Senior officials have also been tasked with addressing traffic congestion and commuter accessibility near Kalyan Railway Station. The moves form part of a broader push for sustainable urban development and improved public infrastructure. Mayor Harshali Choudhari and Commissioner Abhinav Goel recently inspected the Waldhuni River stretch. They assessed the challenges of reviving the waterway, reviewing its current condition and identifying pollution sources. Sewage discharge points and riverbank encroachments were also examined.

The Mayor instructed officials to draft a detailed action plan. This will cover river cleaning, sewage prevention, removal of encroachments, and the development of the riverfront. The initiative will involve multiple departments, with a focus on environmental sustainability and enhancing the urban landscape.

At the SATIS Project near Kalyan Railway Station, the civic administration studied traffic congestion and pedestrian movement. Unauthorised hawkers and illegal encroachments around the station precinct were highlighted as key obstacles. Officials identified traffic choke points and discussed ways to improve vehicular flow and pedestrian safety. Senior authorities were then directed to implement immediate measures to ease congestion and enhance commuter access. The KDMC’s renewed efforts target both river rejuvenation and urban mobility. The action plan for the Waldhuni River and corrective steps for traffic management aim to improve public infrastructure. These steps reflect the corporation’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
