Kazakh wind farm developer reclaims $120K in overpaid VAT after legal battle

A wind farm construction company in Satpayev has successfully recovered overpaid taxes after a lengthy review. The Satpayev Prosecutor’s Office intervened, ordering authorities to refund the excess payments to Mezgilder Qushteri LLP. Mezgilder Qushteri LLP, which specialises in wind farm development, had been overcharging value-added tax (VAT) on imported equipment since July 2025. The error led to significant overpayments, prompting the company to seek a correction.

Following an investigation, the Satpayev Prosecutor’s Office directed the State Revenue Department to return the funds. The company has now received a refund totalling 55 million tenge.

The refund resolves the overpayment issue for Mezgilder Qushteri LLP. The decision ensures the company recovers the full amount owed, easing financial strain from the previous tax error. Authorities confirmed the repayment after the prosecutor’s intervention.
