Kazakhstan accelerates highway expansion with billion-tenge road projects
Kazakhstan is set to launch major road projects before the end of the month. The Karaganda–Zhezkazgan highway, a 575-kilometre stretch, will soon begin construction. Meanwhile, other key routes are nearing completion or already in use after repairs. The Karaganda–Zhezkazgan highway will cost 524 billion tenge and take two years to finish. Work on the 765-kilometre Beineu–Sekseul road, priced at 725 billion tenge, is also planned.
By the end of 2024, the Ulytau–Kyzylorda road will be fully open. Last year, 216 kilometres of the Kyzylorda–Zhezkazgan route were already completed. Traffic has also resumed on the Kegen–Narynkol section after flood damage.
In addition, over 11,000 kilometres of roads across Kazakhstan will undergo repairs and reconstruction by 2026. The new highways will improve transport links across the country. The projects are part of a broader effort to upgrade Kazakhstan’s road network. Completion dates for some routes are set for this year and beyond.
