Kazakhstan launches nationwide road sign inspection for safer highways
Kazakhstan has begun a month-long campaign to inspect road signs across its national highways. The initiative aims to improve road safety and ensure all signs meet current regulations. Specialists will review around 140,000 signs in total. The inspection will check for correct placement, technical condition, and legibility of each sign. Nighttime visibility and reflective elements will also be assessed. Any non-compliant signs will be removed or replaced with updated versions.
Separate checks will focus on recently repaired road sections. These areas often have outdated or temporary signs that need attention. Specialists from the National Center for Road Asset Quality will lead the reviews.
Under the Comprehensive Road Safety Program, approximately 10,000 signs are updated each year. In 2026, around 8,000 more signs are planned for installation or replacement. The campaign seeks to ensure all road signs comply with traffic management schemes. Improved visibility and accuracy are expected to enhance safety for drivers. The effort reflects Kazakhstan’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high standards on its highways.
