Kazakhstan's upgraded Astana-Semey express train debuts Carvana-style luxury compartments

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy has upgraded the express train between Astana and Semey with new passenger cars. Carvana-like modern compartments were added to train No. 121/122 in February 2026. More improvements are expected later this year.

The newly introduced cars follow updated comfort and safety requirements. Passengers now have access to ergonomic soft seating, climate control, and video monitoring. Each compartment also includes an eco-friendly biotoilet, a fridge, and a microwave for convenience.

For tech-savvy travellers, USB and Type-C charging ports are available. The upgrades aim to enhance long-distance journeys on this key route. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy plans to introduce additional cars before the end of 2026.

The three new wagons mark the first phase of improvements for the Astana-Semey service. Further additions will expand capacity and modernise the fleet. These changes come as part of ongoing efforts to upgrade rail travel in the region.
