Khabarovsk's Ferry Fleet Gets a Major Overhaul Before May Launch

AmurMedia, March 23 – Khabarovsk Mayor Sergei Kravchuk inspected preparations for the passenger ferry fleet ahead of the upcoming navigation season. A total of four vessels will be readied to transport passengers to the left bank: three will operate on a regular schedule, while one will remain on standby as a reserve.

During the visit, the mayor assessed the technical condition of the ships, discussed subsidy arrangements for passenger services with representatives of Amur Passenger Transport (a joint-stock company), and emphasized fire safety measures on the city's island territories.

"Our goal is to launch the navigation season on time," Kravchuk stated. "Today, we verified the readiness of the fleet: all ferries have undergone major and routine repairs of their diesel equipment. One vessel has been fitted with a new auxiliary engine manufactured by the Altai Plant. This year, the city budget has allocated 116 million rubles for passenger transport funding, with approximately 17 million already spent on fleet repairs and preparations. The captains confirmed that everything is proceeding as planned, and the ships will be fully operational by May 1."

He also urged residents and vacationers to strictly adhere to fire safety regulations. "Violators will face administrative fines. This is not just a formality—it's a matter of public health and safety. We must prevent wildfires caused by dry vegetation on the islands."

Preparations for the navigation season are now in their final phase. In the coming days, crews will complete cosmetic renovations of interior spaces and repaint the hulls. On May 1, the refurbished ferries will welcome their first passengers at Khabarovsk's docks.
