Recall that in 2025, a state contract was signed for a major overhaul of a section of the Syktyvkar–Ukhta–Pechora–Usinsk–Naryan-Mar highway. The work is currently underway in Pechora District, covering the stretch from Kadzherom to the Kozhva railway station, between the settlements of Chikshino and Kozhva.
The primary goal of the project is to improve the operational condition of this road segment. As part of the overhaul, the existing transitional pavement along the 39.9-kilometer section will be completely replaced with an upgraded, two-layer asphalt concrete surface. The contract also includes the installation of street lighting, sidewalks, and other infrastructure improvements.
Under the terms of the agreement, construction and installation work is scheduled for completion by 2027. However, repairs are progressing ahead of schedule. As of March 18, 2026, 70% of culvert installations have been completed, 85% of right-of-way clearing is finished, 44% of embankment slope work and roadbed preparation is done, and 42% of the roadbase construction is complete. The lower layer of the asphalt concrete pavement has been laid on 31% of the section (12.7 km). Overall, the project is 25% complete, running 12% ahead of the approved timeline.
Currently, active work is underway on excavating the roadbed and delivering inert materials to the site.
The progress of road construction in the republic is under the direct oversight of Komi head Rostislav Goldstein. It is worth noting that the regional leader has set an ambitious goal: by 2030, Komi's roads should rank among the best in Russia's Northwest.
The highway repairs are being carried out as part of the Infrastructure for Life national project, implemented on the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
