Komsomolsk-on-Amur revives historic buildings in sweeping restoration drive

Komsomolsk-on-Amur has begun restoring the facades of its historic buildings as part of a wider city development plan. The first completed project at 12 Uralskaya Street now features a refurbished exterior and artistic lighting. The restoration work is part of the city’s Long-Term Plan for Comprehensive Socioeconomic Development. Contractors have already started on all ten designated buildings, with scaffolding going up at 17 Lenin Prospect and 32 Mira Prospect. Preparatory work is also underway at 43 Mira Prospect.

Buildings at 23, 32, and 36 Lenin Prospect, as well as 8, 20, 26, and 28 Mira Prospect, are currently being restored. The project focuses on preserving each structure’s historic character while updating its appearance. By 2026, all ten buildings in this phase will be fully renovated.

In 2027, the effort will expand to include buildings along Truda Alley and additional major prospects across the city. The completed restoration at 12 Uralskaya Street marks the first step in a multi-year plan. Further renovations will continue through 2026, with more sites added the following year. The city aims to revitalise its historic architecture while maintaining its original charm.
