Kostanay Region Upgrades Firefighting with New Gear and Expanded Teams
Kostanay Region has bolstered its firefighting capabilities with a major upgrade in equipment and staffing. Governor Kumar Aksakalov recently handed over 79 units of specialised firefighting gear to local forestry services. The move comes as part of a wider effort to strengthen fire prevention and response across the region.
Over the past three years, the regional government has invested 8 billion tenge into modernising forestry institutions. This funding has allowed the purchase of 26 fire trucks, 86 tractors, 39 small wildfire response units, and 78 support vehicles. This year alone, another 25 fire trucks and 9 tractors are set to arrive.
The latest transfer includes 36 wildfire response units, 17 tractors, and 26 light patrol vehicles. Alongside the new equipment, the forest protection workforce has grown by 50 percent. Employees in the sector have also seen their salaries doubled, aiming to improve retention and efficiency.
The upgrades are expected to cut response times during fire outbreaks. They will also enhance preventive measures, particularly in high-risk fire seasons.
The new resources and expanded workforce will help forestry teams tackle wildfires more effectively. With faster response times and better equipment, the region aims to reduce fire-related damage in the coming years. The investment reflects a long-term commitment to protecting local forests and communities.
