Krasnoyarsk tests new traffic light to ease summer congestion at key roundabout

A new traffic light has started operating at the Kalinin Street roundabout in Krasnoyarsk. The system, currently in a trial phase, aims to reduce congestion during peak travel times—particularly in the busy summer months. The signal is positioned at the Bugach intersection, where two key traffic routes meet. One leads to the Miasokombinat district and the Elite residential area, both densely populated. The other directs drivers toward Krasnoyarsk Airport.

For now, the light functions only during rush hours. Traffic specialists are closely observing its effects and may fine-tune the timing as needed. Further changes could include moving a nearby public transport stop and pedestrian crossing to enhance both traffic flow and safety.

The trial period will determine whether the new light effectively cuts delays. If successful, adjustments to nearby infrastructure may follow. The goal remains smoother journeys for drivers heading to the airport and residential zones.
