Kuwait battles severe flooding as torrential rains paralyze key roads

Heavy rainfall across Kuwait has triggered a large-scale emergency response from government agencies. The Ministry of Public Works, led by Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, activated full preparedness measures to tackle widespread water accumulation over the past two days.

Authorities have mobilised resources, including heavy machinery and rescue teams, to drain flooded zones and ensure public safety. The coordinated effort spans multiple governorates, with key roads temporarily closed due to rising water levels.

The Ministry of Public Works raised its alert status to the highest level as torrential rain caused severe pooling in low-lying areas. Undersecretary Eid Al-Rashidi confirmed that technical crews were deployed across all governorates to monitor and address water buildup, particularly near major highways where traffic risks were highest.

Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan conducted inspection tours to oversee emergency drainage operations. She commended the rapid response of field teams and ordered intensified efforts to clear affected zones quickly. Meanwhile, Kuwait Municipality reinforced support by dispatching heavy equipment, water tankers, and pumps to assist national relief work. To reduce risks, the Ministry of Interior closed sections of critical routes, including parts of King Abdulaziz Al Saud Road in Fahaheel. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry urged delivery firms to pause outdoor services, while the Public Authority for Manpower instructed companies with external operations to suspend work until conditions stabilise. The Ministry of Social Affairs also confirmed its rescue teams were on standby, ready to intervene where needed.

The government's unified response has focused on draining floodwater, securing roads, and protecting residents from rain-related hazards. Agencies continue working around the clock to restore normal conditions. Officials have stressed that public safety remains the top priority as recovery efforts proceed.
