Leuna's new €10 million train station breaks ground next week
A new train station is coming to Leuna, bringing better transport links to the town. Construction begins on 18 May, with the project set to finish by late 2027. The €10 million investment will replace the old Leuna-Werke Nord station with a modern, accessible facility closer to the city centre. Deutsche Bahn will start building the new 'Leuna' station at Kötzschener Weg next week. The site sits just outside the Leuna Works industrial area, making it more convenient for local residents. Two 170-metre-long platforms will be constructed, both fully barrier-free and equipped with stairs and elevators.
The project is backed by nearly €10 million in funding from the Coal Regions Investment Act, the federal government, and Deutsche Bahn. Once complete, the current Leuna-Werke Nord station will close permanently. The new location will offer improved access to regional rail services, serving all residents with easier connections near the town centre.
The station is scheduled to open by the end of 2027. Its barrier-free design and central position will provide a more practical transport hub for Leuna. The old station will shut down once the replacement becomes operational.
