Louisiana's $2B green energy plant turns forest waste into clean power
A new $2-billion power facility in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana, is set to transform forestry waste into clean electricity. The Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF) project will use carbon capture technology to produce 100 megawatts of dispatchable energy while cutting emissions. Automation specialist Emerson has now been chosen to oversee the plant's advanced control systems. The LGF facility will process 1.3 million tons of forestry residuals each year. By capturing 1.1 million metric tons of CO₂, it aims to deliver carbon-neutral power on a commercial scale. Emerson's role includes installing its DeltaV™ Automation Platform alongside a range of smart technologies to streamline operations.
Emerson's portfolio covers everything from Rosemount™ sensors and control valves to AspenTech® data management software. These tools will help optimise efficiency, lower operational risks, and ensure the project stays on track. The company's prior experience in biomass plants and carbon capture made it the preferred partner for Strategic Biofuels.
Once completed, the facility will mark a key step for energy independence in Louisiana. It also positions the state as a frontrunner in sustainable power generation. The LGF project combines biomass energy with carbon capture to create a replicable model for clean electricity. Emerson's automation solutions will support its goal of reliable, low-emission power production. The plant is expected to strengthen Louisiana's energy sector while advancing carbon-neutral technology.
