Lübeck launches €1.49M road repair plan for 2026 to upgrade key areas
Lübeck has announced a major road repair programme for 2026, targeting heavily used junctions and key routes across the city. The works will cover over 5,500 square metres of resurfacing, along with upgrades for pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic management systems. The total cost is expected to reach around €1.487 million.
The project follows a long-term maintenance plan based on condition surveys from 2018 and 2023. Key areas include the Krempelsdorfer Allee/Stockelsdorfer Straße/Friedhofsallee intersection, where 2,800 sq.m of pavement will be renewed, with improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians. At the Buntekuhweg/Moislinger Allee/Am Moislinger Baum junction, 1,070 sq.m of pavement will be replaced, pedestrian islands widened, and traffic lights reprogrammed.
The Ziegelteller roundabout will get a new asphalt surface and updated road markings across 1,400 sq.m. Meanwhile, Fackenburger Allee (L 332) will see repairs between Ziegelstraße and Steinrader Weg, including 12 cm of milling and fresh asphalt layers. A 300-metre stretch of Bei der Lohmühle (K 25) will also undergo full-depth rehabilitation.
To reduce disruption, Lübeck mobil has introduced real-time traffic management, including coordinated signal timing and expanded bus routes around construction zones. For 2026, dynamic route adjustments via mobile apps and extra shuttle services during peak times will help keep delays to a minimum. Some works are planned for the summer holidays, though final approval depends on the main committee.
Authorities are working closely with the road traffic office, police, and public transport providers to coordinate the repairs.
The 2026 roadworks will address critical infrastructure needs, focusing on high-traffic areas and safety improvements. Once completed, the upgrades are set to enhance travel conditions for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians across Lübeck. The project remains subject to final approval and ongoing stakeholder collaboration.
