Lucerne's Transport Museum boat routes reopen after water crisis eases

Boat services to Lucerne's Transport Museum will return this weekend after weeks of disruption. Low water levels had forced a temporary halt to routes, but rising lake conditions have now eased the problem. The suspension began last Saturday due to critically low water.

The issue stemmed from months of dry winter weather, which drained Lake Lucerne to unusually low levels. Now, with water levels recovering, normal operations are set to resume.

The suspension affected boat connections to the Verkehrshaus der Schweiz, a popular museum in Lucerne. Last weekend, services to its Lido stop were paused as water levels dropped too low for safe navigation. Other stops, such as Stansstad and Seeburg, remained unaffected by the low conditions.

Recent rainfall and improved weather have since raised the lake's water levels. Authorities confirmed the recovery and expect the trend to continue. As a result, the Lido route will reopen this Saturday, restoring full access to the museum by boat.

No further disruptions were reported for winter 2024, and no other boat services in the area faced similar issues during this period.

The return of boat services means visitors can once again reach the Transport Museum by water. With Lake Lucerne's levels stabilising, further interruptions are unlikely for now. The museum and local transport operators have confirmed the schedule will run as planned from this weekend.
