Mainz road closure starts Saturday for temporary bridge installation
A major road closure will disrupt travel in Mainz from Saturday evening. The shutdown begins on April 11 at 8:00 PM and lasts until Monday, April 13, at 5:00 AM. Both pedestrians and cyclists will face detours during this period. The full closure of Hagenauer Straße and its pedestrian path is required to install a temporary bridge. This provisional structure will span the road, ensuring all lanes on the A 643 remain open while renovation work takes place. The underpass at Hagenauer Straße/Alte Schmelze is part of a larger project to expand the motorway.
Construction crews will work through the weekend to complete the temporary setup. The bridge will allow traffic to flow uninterrupted on the A 643 during the underpass renovation. This phase is the first of two planned for the site.
The closure will end early on Monday morning, reopening Hagenauer Straße and the pedestrian route. The temporary bridge will stay in place until the underpass work is finished. Further nightly closures on the A 643 are expected in March 2026 for additional marking work.
