Hessian Roads and Traffic Management Agency Announces Bridge and Road Renewal Project
This spring, renovation work will begin on two bridges along State Roads L 3088 and L 3092 between Marburg and the Lahnbergen district. The project, carried out in multiple construction phases, will include the refurbishment of both bridges as well as the connecting road between them.
To minimize traffic disruptions—given that these state roads serve as key arteries for commuters, emergency services, and supply transport—preparatory measures are already underway. Temporary median crossovers are being installed in advance of the main construction work to ensure that both lanes remain open in each direction throughout the project.
First Construction Phase Begins March 2 Starting Monday, March 2, the first phase—expected to last approximately three weeks—will focus on the southern section of the Hansenhaus interchange. During this period, the roadway of L 3088 (Großseelheimer Straße) will be resurfaced in the direction of Kirchhain, as well as toward L 3289 (Sonnenblickallee), including the on- and off-ramps. The entire L 3088 interchange toward Kirchhain will be fully closed. Cyclists will be directed along a designated, secured lane on the state road. Additionally, work on adjacent facilities along L 3289 near the interchange will require reducing the road to a single lane, with traffic regulated by temporary signals.
Detours During First Phase Motorists heading toward Kirchhain will be rerouted via L 3289, L 3125 (Beltershäuser Straße), and L 3089 (Cappeler Straße) through Marburg back to Großseelheimer Straße. Drivers coming from central Marburg via L 3088 who wish to turn onto L 3289 toward Ebsdorfergrund will be diverted to L 3092 (Auf den Lahnbergen), where they can turn around and access the northern side of the Hansenhaus interchange.
Temporary Adjustments to Marburg Public Transit (March 2–21, 2026) During the first phase, the following changes will apply to Stadtwerke Marburg bus services:
- Line 2 will terminate early at Botanischer Garten when traveling from Cappel, skipping the Richtsberg area entirely.
- Line 6 will operate shortened routes on weekends, ending at Eisenacher Weg and omitting service from there to Fontanestraße.
Second Phase: Two-Week Full Closure Immediately afterward, the second phase—expected to last two weeks—will involve renewing the L 3088 roadway toward Kirchhain near the Hansenhaus interchange and constructing a median crossover. This will require a full closure of the state road between Marburg and the interchange. Traffic will be diverted within Marburg via L 3089 (Cappeler Straße), L 3125 (Beltershäuser Straße), and L 3289 (Sonnenblickallee) toward Kirchhain.
Third Phase: Median Crossovers on L 3092 Bridge Running concurrently with the second phase, the third phase will install temporary median crossovers on the L 3092 bridge (Auf den Lahnbergen) toward Lahnberge. The road will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this work, though the bridge will remain open to two-way traffic.
One crossover will be built on the Lahnberge side before the bridge. Since the road toward Marburg is already single-lane in this section, vehicles will temporarily use the adjacent bike lane. Cyclists will share the road with motorized traffic during this period. To ensure safety, a 30 km/h speed limit will be enforced in the construction zone.
The fourth and final phase of construction is expected to last approximately three weeks, affecting the northern section of the Hansenhaus interchange. Work will begin with the renewal of the road surface on the entry and exit ramps toward Marburg. Additionally, the traffic island at the northern interchange will be removed. Since this will require a full closure of the interchange, traffic will be diverted through Marburg via Großseelheimer Straße, Cappeler Straße, and Beltershäuser Straße during this time.
Following this, the roadway in the direction of Marburg will be resurfaced in the area beyond the Hansenhaus interchange exit toward the city. The exit ramp will then reopen, while the closed entry ramp will continue to be diverted through central Marburg.
For long-distance traffic, a detour will be in place throughout the construction period, routing vehicles from the B62 near Amöneburg via the L3048 and L3125 through Ebsdorfergrund.
All diversions will be clearly signposted. Overview maps for each phase of the detours are included as attachments to this press release.
