Major bridge repairs underway on Kulom-Yu River crossing by 2026
Repair work has begun on a bridge crossing the Kulom-Yu River along the Ust-Kulom–Ust-Nem–Myeldino road. The project, currently 8% complete, is being carried out by contractor Mostovik LLC. The bridge spans 51.16 metres and is part of a wider infrastructure upgrade in the region. The renovation includes repairs to the bridge supports and reinforcement of the superstructure. Partial beam replacement, new bearing plates, pier caps, and abutment reconstruction are also planned. The bridge deck will receive upgrades as part of the work.
Dismantling of sections has already finished. Repairs to the riverbank supports are underway, and work on the intermediate piers has started. The entire project is scheduled for completion by 30 October 2026.
This bridge repair is part of the national project Infrastructure for Life. In 2026, the initiative aims to renovate 113.1 kilometres of regional roads and install 5.2 kilometres of street lighting. It also plans to build 13.2 kilometres of sidewalks and repair seven bridges. Oversight of the roadwork progress in the region is being led by Komi Republic Head Rostislav Goldstein. The bridge repairs align with the United Russia party’s People’s Program, which prioritises modern transport infrastructure. Once finished, the upgrades will improve safety and durability for the structure. The project remains on track for its October 2026 deadline.
