Train line Bad Sooden-Allendorf - Bebra closed for weeks - Major railway upgrades to disrupt services between Bad Sooden-Allendorf and Bebra for seven weeks

Major railway upgrades will disrupt services between Bad Sooden-Allendorf and Bebra from March 27 to May 15, 2026. The 35–40 kilometre stretch, passing through Eschwege, Sontra, and Eichenberg, will undergo extensive work, including a new tunnel and track renewals. Travellers should expect changes to both regional and long-distance routes during this period.

The closure will allow multiple projects to proceed at once. Excavation for the new Cornberg Tunnel, located between Bebra and Sontra, will begin during this time. Alongside this, crews will renew tracks on the Bad Sooden-Allendorf to Eschwege section and install noise barriers between Bad Sooden-Allendorf and Kleinvach. Additional technical updates, such as relocating signals and renewing overhead power lines, are also planned between Bebra and Sontra.

Regional services will face significant adjustments. Line RB 87, running between Eichenberg and Bebra, will be suspended entirely, with replacement buses operated by Cantus Verkehrsgesellschaft. Meanwhile, RB 83, connecting Göttingen and Eichenberg, will run on modified schedules to keep passengers moving. Long-distance trains will take alternative routes, with some diverted between Bebra and Eichenberg via Kassel.

The upgrades aim to modernise infrastructure and reduce noise for nearby communities. Once complete, the new Cornberg Tunnel and renewed tracks will improve reliability on this key route. Passengers are advised to check schedules and plan for alternative transport during the seven-week closure.
