Major roadworks to transform Gießen's Wieseck district in 2026

Gießen Public Utilities (SWG) will begin a major construction project on April 1, 2026. The work will expand the district heating network along Rabenauer Straße in the Wieseck district. The project will also upgrade key infrastructure and resurface roads in the area. The first phase starts on April 1, 2026, between house number 24 and Alten-Busecker Straße. During this time, Rabenauer Straße will close completely to traffic. Parking in the affected area will also be suspended, and parts of the sidewalk will become inaccessible.

Bus Route 5 will be diverted while the road is closed. Residents can check for updates on schedule changes by calling 0641 708-1400, visiting www.stadtwerke-giessen.de/verkehrshinweise, or stopping by the RMV Mobility Center at the SWG Customer Service Center on Marktplatz. The project covers a stretch from Albert-Osswald-Platz to Badener Hohl. Alongside the district heating expansion, the city will renovate main sewer lines and lateral connections. The road and sidewalks will be resurfaced, while electricity, natural gas, and drinking water infrastructure will also receive upgrades. Construction is set to finish in the 50th calendar week of 2026.

The work will bring improved heating, utilities, and road conditions to the Wieseck district. Residents and commuters should plan for disruptions during the first phase. Official updates will be available through SWG's website and customer service channels.
