Malaga launches €20.8M emergency repairs on storm-damaged motorways
Malaga province is set to begin major repairs on its key motorways, the A-7 and A-45. Heavy rainfall in late 2025 and early 2026 caused significant damage to many sections. The government has approved €20.8 million to fund urgent restoration work. Construction teams have already started work at several locations across the province. These include Marbella, Estepona, Malaga, Nerja, Velez-Malaga, Casabermeja, Rincon de la Victoria, and Antequera. The project covers 156 kilometres, split into five separate packages.
The A-7 repairs will run from the Granada provincial border to areas near Cadiz Province. On the A-45, crews will focus on stretches linking Malaga province with Cordoba. The design allows for simultaneous work at different points, improving efficiency and reducing delays.
Workers will remove damaged pavement layers and lay new hot tarmac surfaces. They will also restore service roads, slip roads, and replace faded road markings. Partial lane closures will be used for most of the project, though full road closures will occur when necessary. The project is scheduled for completion by September, weather permitting. The repairs aim to restore safe and smooth travel on two of the region’s busiest motorways. Crews will continue working across multiple sites to meet the deadline.
