MARTA is preparing for its biggest bus network overhaul in nearly 50 years. The changes, called the NextGen Bus Network, will roll out on April 18, 2026. Almost every route will be adjusted to improve frequency and efficiency across metro Atlanta.
To help riders adapt, the agency has scheduled a series of public information sessions. Two were already held on February 16 at H.E. Holmes Station, with more planned over the coming weeks.
The NextGen Bus Network marks MARTA's first major redesign since the 1970s. Nearly all existing bus routes will change when the new system launches in April. The goal is to offer faster, more reliable services for passengers.
One key addition is the Rapid A-Line, a five-mile bus rapid transit route. It will connect Downtown Atlanta to Capitol Gateway, Summerhill, and Peoplestown. Stops will include Five Points, Georgia State, and Garnett Stations, with the first phase starting on April 18.
Separately, MARTA Reach, an on-demand service, will begin earlier, on March 7, 2026. This service operates differently from traditional fixed routes.
Before the changes take effect, MARTA is hosting nearly a dozen information sessions. These events will explain the new routes, schedules, and how to navigate the updated network. Details on dates, times, and locations have been made available to the public.
The April launch will bring significant changes to how people travel by bus in Atlanta. Riders will see new routes, improved connections, and expanded services like the Rapid A-Line. MARTA's information sessions aim to ensure a smooth transition for everyone affected by the redesign.
