Rheda-Wiedenbrück – On Thursday (March 19, 2026, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM), the traffic enforcement unit of Gütersloh District Police, in cooperation with Bielefeld Main Customs Office, the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM), and the Detmold Regional Government, conducted large-scale truck inspections at a site on Kornstraße in Rheda-Wiedenbrück.
The checks focused primarily on compliance with driving and rest periods in commercial freight and passenger transport, the technical condition of vehicles, proper load securing, and potential overloading. A total of 58 vehicles were inspected, with 30 violations recorded.
In eight cases, administrative proceedings were initiated for breaches of social traffic regulations (driving and rest times). Six additional violations of these rules were addressed on-site with fines. Four trucks were found to be overloaded, including one with an axle load exceeding the legal limit by 23%. The vehicle was prohibited from continuing its journey until the load was properly redistributed.
In two cases, cargo was insufficiently secured, and the trucks were also stopped from proceeding until the issue was rectified.
Additionally, customs officers checked 13 individuals, launching criminal investigations against two people on suspicion of illegal employment and illegal residence. The Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility also filed a report for a waste law violation.
The Gütersloh Police will continue to conduct regular inspections of commercial freight and passenger transport to enhance road safety, particularly involving heavy goods vehicles.
