Metro Manila Subway advances with key stations under construction by 2032
Work on the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) is moving forward, with key stations now under construction. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has called the system a long-term fix for the city's traffic problems. The project, set to finish by 2032, will link 17 stations across Metro Manila, including Quezon City, Pasig, and Manila.
The MMSP's Pasig segment, known as Contract Package 104, covers a 3.397-kilometre stretch. This includes underground stations at Ortigas Avenue and Shaw Boulevard, along with connecting tunnels. The contract was awarded to Tokyu-Tobishima-Megawide Joint Venture (TTMJV) for civil works.
Pre-construction at Shaw Boulevard Station is nearly finished. The station sits beside Estancia Mall, at the corner of Meralco Avenue and Shaw Boulevard. Meanwhile, the Ortigas Avenue Station will be built at the intersection of Meralco Avenue, Ortigas Avenue, and Julia Vargas Avenue.
Right-of-way acquisition for the entire project has reached 90.92 percent. Officials expect full completion by June 2023. Several other stations are already being built, keeping the project on track for its 2032 deadline.
Once operational, the MMSP will stretch across seven cities and municipalities in Metro Manila. The system aims to ease congestion by providing a direct underground route. With major construction milestones underway, the subway remains on schedule for completion within the decade.
