Mexico and Canada have signed a new agreement to deepen their partnership in aerospace research and innovation. The deal was finalised during a trade mission led by Mexican Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón. Officials from both nations gathered for the signing ceremony, marking a step forward in scientific and industrial collaboration.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by ANUIES (Mexico’s National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions), TecNM (Technological National Institute of Mexico), and Mitacs, a Canadian non-profit supporting research and training. This agreement builds on earlier initiatives, including the Comprehensive Strategic Alliance launched in 2025 and scientific accords from 2026.
The partnership focuses on three key areas: talent development, research, and applied innovation. Joint training programmes, academic exchanges, and technology transfer will be prioritised to strengthen the aerospace sector. Mitacs’ existing programmes, such as the Globalink Research Award and Accelerate, will help create a binational network of specialists. Beyond education, the deal aims to turn scientific research into practical industrial advancements with measurable economic benefits. It also encourages closer ties between universities and private companies, ensuring that innovation reaches the marketplace.
The agreement sets out clear pathways for collaboration between Mexican and Canadian institutions. By combining academic expertise with industry needs, both countries aim to boost their aerospace capabilities. The next steps will involve implementing joint programmes and expanding researcher exchanges.
