Mexico City’s new Tlalpan Floating Garden, an elevated park, opened to the public on Sunday afternoon. Just hours later, heavy rain caused severe flooding on the nearby Floating Garden Walkway for the second day in a row. The downpour left large puddles across the walkway, which connects Chabacano to Pino Suárez. Despite storm drains being in place, water quickly overwhelmed the path, forcing some pedestrians to turn back or jump over flooded sections to keep moving.
Visitors taking shelter under the park’s roofs found little relief. Water seeped into covered areas, leaving many stranded until the rain eased.
The flooding has disrupted access to the newly opened park. City officials have yet to comment on measures to prevent further waterlogging. The walkway remains open, but conditions may worsen if heavy rain continues.
