Mexico's first free school bus service launches in San Pedro Garza García

San Pedro Garza García has launched Mexico’s first free public school transport service. Called the San Pedro School Circuit, the system aims to cut traffic jams near schools and offer families a safer, cheaper alternative. Officials say the move will ease rush-hour congestion while keeping costs low for parents. The programme began as a trial but will now become permanent. Two dedicated buses will serve each participating school, with new routes added for more institutions. Currently, around 300 students from six schools use the service.

The buses include security cameras and extra safety measures to protect children. Families at private schools pay about 1,000 pesos per month—far less than private transport options. Mayor Mauricio Farah Giacomán and General Secretary Luis Susarrey are leading the push for the initiative. School traffic has long caused delays in busy urban areas. By reducing private vehicles near campuses, the scheme hopes to make mornings and afternoons smoother for everyone.

The San Pedro School Circuit sets a new standard for municipal transport in Mexico. It provides a low-cost, secure option for families while tackling gridlock around schools. More routes and schools are expected to join as the system expands.
