Two shipments of live bees were recently stopped at the Russian-Belarusian border. The cargo, containing millions of bees, lacked the required veterinary documents. Officials took immediate action to address the breach. The shipments were seized near Lobok in Pskov Oblast. Each contained 500 packages of bees, with a total weight of up to 750 kilograms. Together, they held an estimated 5 million to 7.5 million bees.
Rosselkhoznadzor officials demanded veterinary certification for the bees. The transporters failed to provide the necessary papers. Without these, live shipments cannot legally cross the Eurasian Economic Union’s customs territory.
As a result, the cargo was documented for return and sent back to Belarus. Administrative penalties were also imposed on those responsible for the shipment. The incident highlights the strict rules governing live animal transport. The bees were turned away due to missing documentation. Authorities enforced the regulations and applied fines to those involved.
