Mobilezone acquires AK Group in CHF 180M deal to boost Swiss retail dominance
Swiss mobile retailer Mobilezone has agreed to buy the AK Group, home to e-commerce platform Apfelkiste.ch and branding specialist Marein. The deal, valued at around CHF 180 million in cash, is set to complete by the end of June 2026. Both companies expect the move to create new growth opportunities across retail and online channels.
The AK Group has built a strong position in Switzerland's digital and lifestyle market. Its flagship platform, Apfelkiste.ch, offers around 60,000 products, from smartphone accessories to home and living items. Before Mobilezone's earlier takeover in 2021, the company had shown steady growth as a niche Apple retailer, though detailed revenue figures from that period remain undisclosed.
In 2025, the group employed roughly 100 people and reported revenue of over CHF 100 million, with an EBITDA near CHF 20 million. The acquisition will merge Apfelkiste's online strength with Mobilezone's network of physical stores, broadening its market reach. Company leaders describe the partnership as a perfect fit, predicting higher revenue, EBITDA, and margins across all operations.
Pierre Droigk, founder of Apfelkiste and former CEO of the AK Group, is now nominated for a seat on Mobilezone's board. His appointment reflects the strategic importance of integrating the two businesses.
The deal will close by June 2026, with Mobilezone paying CHF 180 million upfront. The combined business aims to leverage its expanded online and offline presence for long-term growth. Executives anticipate substantial value creation from the new opportunities ahead.
