Mönchengladbach Upgrades Three Bus Stops for Better Accessibility

Mönchengladbach is set to enhance accessibility at three of its bus stops. The upgrades will include raised kerbs and tactile paving to aid passengers with mobility issues. Currently, only 371 of the city's 1,162 stops meet full accessibility standards.

Work will commence once funding is secured and approved. The Freiligrathstraße stop on Schlossstraße in Geneicken will see both platforms moved to a single new location. This change aims to simplify boarding for all travellers.

The Ehrenstraße stop on Hovener Straße in Bettrath will also undergo changes. Its southbound platform will shift to a better position. Meanwhile, the Hermann-Löns-Straße stop in Mülfort will receive upgrades without needing to relocate.

All three stops will feature raised boarding kerbs and tactile paving. These adjustments will make public transport easier to use for wheelchair users and visually impaired passengers.

The project will bring the total number of fully accessible stops in Mönchengladbach closer to 400. Once completed, the improvements will ensure smoother and safer travel for more residents. Construction timelines will depend on the approval of the funding request.
