Moscow Metro Expands with Two Major Line Extensions in 2024
Moscow’s metro network is set to grow with two major extensions. The Sokolnicheskaya and Filevskaya lines will add new routes, stations, and improved services. Thousands of residents will benefit from shorter travel times and better connections. The Sokolnicheskaya line will stretch 8.1 km further, running from Bulvar Rokossovskogo to Yaroslavsky District. Two new stations, MGSU and Yaroslavskaya, will serve around 100,000 locals. Commuters in the area can expect journeys to be about 20 minutes faster. Trains on this line will also run every 1.5 minutes.
The Filevskaya line will expand by 12 km, connecting Kuntsevskaya to Skokolovo. Five new stations—Vereiskaya, Skokolovskoye Shosse, Marfino, Skokolovo, and Medical Center—will open along the route. This extension passes through Fili-Davydkovo, Kuntsevo, Ochakovo-Matveyevskoye, and Mozhaisky. Nearly 320,000 people live near these stops, with travel times cut by up to 25 minutes. The line will also introduce seven-car trains for added comfort, and trains will depart every three minutes. Both extensions will improve access for hundreds of thousands of passengers. The new stations and increased train frequency aim to ease daily commutes. Residents near the expanded lines will see faster and more reliable metro services.
