Moscow's online retail boom hits $210 billion in 2025

Moscow's online retail market has grown sharply in 2025, hitting a turnover of 19 trillion rubles ($210 billion). This marks a 14% rise from the previous year, with e-commerce now making up nearly a quarter of the city's total retail sales. Food deliveries lead the sector, reflecting wider shifts in consumer habits.

The latest figures show Moscow's online shopping turnover climbing to 19 trillion rubles in 2025. This growth follows a steady upward trend, with e-commerce now accounting for 25% of all retail activity—up from 22% in 2024.

Food remains the dominant category, representing 28% of the online market. Its turnover reached 531 billion rubles ($5.9 billion) in 2025. Behind food, furniture and home goods, along with clothing and footwear, complete the top three sectors. The expansion isn't limited to Moscow alone. Nationwide, Russia's e-commerce market has surged 5.5 times since 2019. Total online sales across the country now stand at 11.5 trillion rubles, compared to just 2 trillion rubles six years ago.

Moscow's online retail growth highlights a broader shift toward digital shopping. The food sector's strong performance and the overall 14% increase in turnover point to sustained demand. With e-commerce now making up a larger share of retail, the trend shows no signs of slowing.
