Construction Underway on Three Stations of Moscow's Troitskaya Metro Line
Work is progressing on three new stations—Sosenski, Rakitki, and Desna—along the Troitskaya metro line in Moscow's Kommunarka district, part of the Novomoskovsky administrative area, according to Vladimir Yefimov, head of the city's Urban Development and Construction Department. His remarks were reported by the press service of Moscow's Urban Development Complex.
"The Sosenski, Rakitki, and Desna stations are in the early stages of construction," Yefimov explained. "At the Sosenski site, earthworks are underway, along with pit reinforcement and the installation of retaining structures. The Rakitki station complex is being prepared for foundation work, while the Desna site has begun vertical grading and the construction of pit enclosures."
Yefimov noted that up to 350 specialists are involved in the project, with completion expected by 2029.
The Rakitki station is being built near the future Troitskoye electric depot, one of Russia's largest, located between Kaluzhskoye and Novomikhailovskoye highways. The station will provide key transport access to the facility.
Meanwhile, tunneling is advancing between the Novomoskovskaya and Sosenski stations.
"The left tunnel is being excavated using the Olga tunnel boring machine (TBM)," said Maxim Gaman, CEO of Mosinzhproekt. "Work began in autumn 2023, and over 800 meters have been completed so far. The right tunnel is being dug by the Tatyana TBM, which will cover more than 1.6 kilometers."
The Tatyana is a six-meter-diameter TBM equipped with earth-pressure-balance technology, designed for dense urban environments. Its route passes partially beneath the Sosenska River and Kaluzhskoye Highway.
"This machine weighs 510 tons and stretches over 77 meters in length," Gaman added. "Excavated material is removed via a tunnel conveyor system, with completion of this section expected by late 2026."
Once operational, the new stations will improve transit access for residents of the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky districts, reducing travel times to central Moscow and easing congestion on the southern sections of the Sokolnicheskaya and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya metro lines, as well as nearby roads.
In October 2025, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the launch of the second phase of the Troitskaya line's construction, extending it from Novomoskovskaya to Troitsk.
The first phase included 11 stations. Upon full completion, the line will run from the ZIL station on the Moscow Central Ring in the Danilovsky district to the city of Troitsk, spanning over 43 kilometers and featuring 17 stations—making it one of the longest radial routes in the Moscow Metro and the largest beyond the MKAD ring road.
Mosinzhproekt JSC is the general designer and contractor for the construction of new lines and stations of the Moscow Metro. Since 2011, the holding company has built and reconstructed 84 metro stations, over 180 kilometers of track, and 14 depots.
