Mumbai Port Authority smashes cargo record with 75.15M tonnes in FY 2025-26

Mumbai Port Authority has recorded its highest-ever cargo throughput in the financial year 2025-26. The port handled 75.15 million metric tonnes, marking a significant milestone in its operational history. Officials have credited this achievement to the combined efforts of all stakeholders involved. The port’s performance in FY 2025-26 saw it capture an 8.22 percent share of all major port cargo across India. It also dominated specific sectors, holding a 15.5 percent share in liquid bulk cargo and a 35 percent share in iron and steel export-import trade. Coastal trade contributed further, with the port securing a 10.48 percent market share.

During a recent meeting, officials reviewed key operational metrics to boost efficiency and reduce costs. Dr. M. Angamuthu, IAS, Chairperson of Mumbai Port Authority, highlighted the role of teamwork in reaching this record throughput. The authority now aims to push its annual operational target to 80 million metric tonnes in the coming years. Looking ahead, the port’s growth strategy includes the proposed Marina development project. This initiative forms part of broader plans to expand infrastructure and enhance service capabilities.

The record cargo volume reinforces Mumbai Port Authority’s position as a key player in India’s maritime trade. With future targets set at 80 million metric tonnes, the port continues to focus on efficiency and strategic expansion. The Marina project and ongoing operational improvements will shape its next phase of development.
