Munich's public transport earns high marks—but reliability concerns linger

Passengers in Munich continue to show high levels of satisfaction with the city’s public transport. A recent survey reveals broad approval, with average ratings remaining steady compared to last year. Trams, buses, and the subway all received strong scores from users. The survey found that trams earned the highest praise, with an average rating of 1.98. Buses followed closely at 2.00, while the subway received a 2.02. Overall satisfaction stayed nearly the same as the previous year, holding at 2.01.

Passengers highlighted the digital mobile ticketing system, the eco-friendliness of transport, and the friendliness of staff at customer service centres. Around 65% of respondents said the service was either unchanged or better than the year before. Meanwhile, 20% reported noticeable improvements, mainly due to overnight subway services and more frequent runs on key routes.

Despite the positive feedback, about one-third of passengers noted declines in reliability, punctuality, service frequency, and communication during disruptions. A significant 98% emphasised the importance of quick, dependable updates when problems occur. In response to the findings, the MVG has committed to enhancing real-time passenger information. Plans include further development of the MVGO app and increased investment in cleanliness and infrastructure. These steps aim to address the concerns raised while maintaining the high satisfaction levels.
