Nakhodka Port's $1.2M-Ton Capacity Boost Begins With Three Berth Upgrades
Nakhodka seaport is set to undergo a major upgrade with the modernisation of three key berths. The project, a joint effort between JSC Terminal Astafyev and FSUE Rosmorzport, will boost the port’s annual handling capacity by 1.2 million tons. Once complete, total throughput is expected to surpass 40 million tons per year.
The modernisation will focus on berths 16, 17, and 18, allowing them to accommodate container ships, bulk carriers, and universal vessels at maximum deadweight. Repair work on berth No. 17 will finish in 2026, restoring full operations before the wider reconstruction begins. The main phase of construction is scheduled from 2028 to 2030.
Terminal Astafyev will handle project documentation, engineering surveys, and the financing of hydraulic structure upgrades. Meanwhile, FSUE Rosmorzport will carry out dredging to achieve depths of up to 10.5 meters. The partnership combines public and private resources to expand the port’s capabilities. JSC Terminal Astafyev currently manages over 20% of Nakhodka’s total cargo turnover. This project will further strengthen its role in the port’s operations while increasing efficiency for larger vessels.
The upgrade will significantly expand Nakhodka’s capacity, enabling it to handle more and larger ships. With completion expected by 2030, the port will support growing trade demands. The collaboration between Terminal Astafyev and Rosmorzport ensures both technical and financial backing for the project.
