Navi Mumbai reclaims 110 hectares to accelerate key infrastructure projects
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has cleared nearly 110 hectares of encroached land in Navi Mumbai over the past two years. The move aims to speed up major infrastructure projects, including roads, metro lines, and new urban developments. Authorities have also taken steps to prevent further illegal occupation of the reclaimed plots. CIDCO demolished 5,804 unauthorised structures across Navi Mumbai as part of its anti-encroachment campaign. Before any action, the agency issued notices to occupants and published warnings in local newspapers. The drives targeted areas reserved for critical projects, such as the KTLR Road, Metro expansions, and the NAINA development plan.
One of the largest operations involved clearing hutments blocking the proposed alignment of the KTLR Road. Officials worked with slum residents to relocate them before demolition. After reclaiming the land, CIDCO secured the plots with fencing and compound walls to stop re-encroachment. The freed land will now support upcoming ventures like Aerocity, Educity, Medicity, a Logistic Park, and an Entertainment Arena. CIDCO has also filed cases against individuals caught dumping debris illegally or stealing soil from its properties. These measures form part of a broader effort to protect public land and maintain the city’s planned growth. Officials have repeatedly stressed their commitment to preventing land grabs and ensuring Navi Mumbai develops as a well-organised, modern city.
The clearance of 110 hectares removes a major hurdle for infrastructure projects in the region. With legal action against illegal dumping and theft, CIDCO aims to keep the reclaimed areas free from further encroachments. The land will now be used for key developments, including transport links, educational hubs, and commercial zones.
