New 3km Huy-Radweg bike path nears completion in Lower Saxony

A new three-kilometre bike path along a former railway line has entered its final construction phase. The route, part of the Huy-Radweg, will connect Dedeleben to Jerxheim station in Lower Saxony. Federal and state funds are covering the €2.3 million project.

The path's groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Saxony-Anhalt's Minister for Infrastructure and Digital Affairs, Lydia Hüskens. Construction marks the last stage of the Huy Bike Trail, linking it to cycling networks in Schöppenstedt and Schöningen.

The section to Jerxheim station is set to open in 2022. Planners also approved a sixth extension—2.8 kilometres from Dedeleben to Jerxheim—scheduled for 2026. This extension received final approval in February. Thomas Kampernolte's video documentation tracks the route's development and construction progress. Rainer Fricke, from the planning office, aims to officially open the path on October 3, coinciding with German Unity Day.

Further details on the project are available at landkreis-helmstedt.de/huyradweg. Once complete, the path will provide cyclists with a direct, scenic connection through the region. The final section is expected to open in time for autumn celebrations.
