New direct train links Zhezqazghan and Mangystau Region by April 2026

A new direct passenger train will connect Zhezqazghan and the Mangystau Region starting April 1, 2026. The service extends the existing Karaganda–Zhezqazghan line, offering travellers a seamless route to western Kazakhstan. Tickets for the twice-weekly journey are now available for purchase.

The existing Karaganda–Zhezqazghan route already links cities like Karaganda, Satbayev, and Balkhash to the national rail network. This extension integrates the Mangystau Region without adding new stops, instead building on the current infrastructure. Passengers can now travel directly from Zhezqazghan to Mangystau Station in around 29 hours.

The new service aims to improve transport options for both residents and visitors. Officials expect it to strengthen business connections between regions and make travel easier for workers commuting long distances. Tourism in the Mangystau area, known for its natural and historical sites, may also see a rise as the route becomes more accessible. Trains will operate twice a week, with departures scheduled to fit existing timetables. The extension follows demand for better cross-country links, particularly between central and western Kazakhstan.

The launch of this route marks the first direct rail connection between Zhezqazghan and Mangystau. It reduces travel time and provides a reliable alternative to road or air transport. Businesses, workers, and tourists will now have a more efficient way to move between these key regions.
