Nizhny Novgorod's tram network grows with 48 km of new lines by 2028

Nizhny Novgorod is expanding its tram network with two new lines set to open between 2025 and 2028. The routes will serve the Sormovo and Prioksky districts, improving links to the city centre. Long-term plans may also extend benefits to areas like Avtozavodsky and Kanavinsky.

Three new tram connections are in development: Myza–Shcherbinki, Olgino–Novinki, and a line through the Oksy Bereg residential area. These additions will stretch the network by 47.8 kilometres once complete.

The city has already upgraded 105.55 kilometres of existing track and introduced 147 new trams into service. Work continues at Depot No. 2 to support the growing fleet. This year, authorities will focus on modernising tricky sections, including the busy intersection at Vaneyev Street. The upgrades aim to smooth operations as the network expands.

The new tram lines will strengthen transport across Nizhny Novgorod's outer districts. With nearly 48 kilometres of track added, the system will handle more passengers and reduce travel times. Modernisation efforts at key junctions will further improve reliability.
