A new partnership between schools in Nizhny Novgorod and a major shipbuilding firm has been officially confirmed. The deal aims to boost engineering education for local students. It was signed during a national conference in Severodvinsk, where educators and industry leaders gathered to discuss future projects. The agreement connects Nizhny Novgorod's Sormovo District with the Sevmash production association, one of Russia's largest shipbuilding enterprises. The district already hosts an educational shipbuilding cluster, involving multiple schools, training centres, and industrial partners like the Krasnoye Sormovo plant. School No. 183, part of this network, has previously hosted the Shipbuilding Olympiad organised by Sevmash.
The signing took place at the conference *Building Russia's Engineering Potential*, attended by representatives from 28 regions. During the event, participants toured Sevmash facilities and observed submarine construction firsthand. Nizhny Novgorod's educators also presented their approach to engineering education, highlighting subject-specific Olympiads, intensive courses, and a mentorship programme. Key outcomes from the conference included plans for 15 new engineering programmes and 10 regional innovation centres. Additionally, 5 billion rubles will be allocated by 2028 to fund scholarships and upgrade infrastructure across participating regions.
The cooperation between Nizhny Novgorod's schools and Sevmash will expand practical training opportunities for students. The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to strengthen engineering education. Funding and new programmes are expected to roll out in the coming years.
