Nuevo León upgrades public transport for FIFA World Cup fans
Nuevo León has launched major upgrades to its public transport ahead of the FIFA World Cup. Free travel will be available for match attendees, with exclusive routes connecting the city centre to the stadium. The changes aim to improve access and safety for fans and residents alike. The Metrorrey system has undergone significant improvements in recent months. Platforms at Exposición and Y Griega stations now have full coverage, enhancing passenger comfort and universal accessibility. Security and technology upgrades have also been prioritised across the network.
A dedicated FIFA transit corridor was completed on schedule and is already in use. Free Metro services will run between the stadium and Fundidora Park in both directions. Attendees of the Fan Fest will also benefit from complimentary travel.
Local artists have contributed to the World Cup preparations through the Trazos Mundialistas program. World Cup-themed murals now decorate Metro stations, adding colour and a sense of community. Artist Paco Reyes noted that such art strengthens society’s connection to public spaces. The upgrades ensure smoother, safer, and more enjoyable travel for World Cup visitors. Free transport and exclusive routes will make it easier for fans to reach matches and events. The new murals and improved stations leave a lasting legacy for the city.
