Omsk shatters 83-year rainfall record in historic April downpour

Omsk has broken an 83-year-old weather record after heavy rainfall struck the region. On Sunday, April 26, 2026, the city experienced its wettest day in recorded history, with 19 millimetres of precipitation. The previous high of 18.4 millimetres had lasted since 1943. The record-breaking downpour was confirmed by meteorologists from the Ob-Irtysh Hydrometeorological Service. Their data showed that most of Omsk Oblast received far more rain than usual in April 2026. Some areas saw between 80% and 193% of their typical monthly rainfall.

The heaviest rain fell in the last ten days of April. This late-month surge pushed Omsk past its long-standing single-day record, which had remained unbroken since World War II. The new record replaces the 18.4-millimetre mark set on the same date in 1943. April 2026 will now be noted for its unusually high precipitation across the region. Local weather services continue to monitor conditions as the season progresses.
