Polus and SIBUR unite to protect Russia's rare species and ecosystems

Polus and SIBUR have signed a cooperation agreement to work together on biodiversity conservation. The deal was finalised at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Both companies will focus on protecting rare species, ecosystems, and plant life across Russia.

The partnership will prioritise the study and preservation of unique natural environments. Research expeditions have already taken place in Chersky National Park, where scientists examined local flora, fauna, and aquatic ecosystems. In the Magadan Region, Polus has also collaborated with experts on projects aimed at safeguarding fragile habitats.

With Polus’ backing, a year-round monitoring system was set up on Talan Island. This system tracks bird behaviour and population changes over time. The companies now plan to expand their efforts by exploring Russian-made technologies for ecosystem surveillance. Polus Vice President Sergei Zhuravlev and SIBUR Management Board member Alexey Kozlov officially signed the agreement. Beyond fieldwork, the partners will develop educational and scientific outreach programmes. These initiatives aim to increase public awareness about protecting Russia’s natural heritage. The two firms also intend to organise their existing expertise into structured corporate environmental programmes. This step will help strengthen future conservation projects and ensure long-term impact.

The agreement marks a formal commitment between Polus and SIBUR to advance biodiversity research and protection. Their combined efforts will include technological monitoring, scientific studies, and public engagement. The goal is to build a more systematic approach to preserving Russia’s ecosystems.
