Primorsky Krai braces for extreme wildfire risk over two days

Large parts of Primorsky Krai will face a high risk of forest fires on May 12 and 13. Authorities have warned that even a small spark could trigger major wildfires. Strict safety measures are now in place across the region to prevent outbreaks. A Level 4 fire danger alert has been issued for 17 districts in Primorsky Krai. These include Khankaysky, Ussuriysky, Oktyabrsky, Pogranichny, Khorolsky, Chernigovsky, Spassky, Anuchinsky, Yakovlevsky, Chuguyevsky, Krasnoarmeysky, Lesozavodsky, Kirovsky, Dalnerechensky, Terneysky, Kavalerovsky, and Dalnegorsky. Officials stress that dry conditions make the area especially vulnerable.

Open fires have been completely banned in the region. Residents and visitors must ensure cigarette butts and matches are fully extinguished. Authorities have repeated that any spark, no matter how small, could quickly escalate into a severe wildfire.

The fire risk remains critical for two days, with officials urging extreme caution. Prevention efforts focus on eliminating potential ignition sources. Violations of the open fire ban may result in penalties under local regulations.
