Qualcomm's new Snapdragon chips redefine mid-range smartphone performance in 2026

Qualcomm has unveiled two new mobile platforms designed for mid-range smartphones. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 promise better performance, smoother connectivity, and improved power efficiency. Both chips will appear in devices from major brands later this year. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 delivers a 21% increase in graphics performance, making gaming faster and more responsive. It also supports Wi-Fi 7, 5G Release 17, and Bluetooth 6.0 for quicker, more stable connections. Apps launch up to 20% faster, while visual stutter on-screen drops by 18%.

Photography gets a boost too, with AI-assisted zoom reaching up to 100x and enhanced night-mode capture. These features aim to improve image clarity in low light and at long distances.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 focuses on gaming with 90 FPS support and a 77% GPU performance jump. It also speeds up app launches by 43% and reduces on-screen interruptions by 25%. For photography, automated face detection and image stabilisation help users take sharper shots.

Both platforms include dual active 5G SIM (DSDA) support, allowing two high-speed connections at once. Devices using these chips will arrive from OPPO, realme, Redmi, and Honor in the second half of 2026. The new Snapdragon platforms target mid-range smartphones with faster speeds, better gaming, and stronger connectivity. Brands like OPPO and Redmi will release devices featuring these chips before the end of the year. The updates aim to bring high-end features to more affordable phones.
