Rattenberg Tunnel closes for urgent Easter weekend repairs in Tyrol

Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) will close the Rattenberg Tunnel in Tyrol for urgent repairs over the Easter weekend. The work, set to run from April 3 to 7, follows weather-related damage to the tunnel's concrete lining. Passengers should expect significant changes to both long-distance and regional services during this time. The repairs require a full closure of the tunnel, with crews working non-stop to remove damaged sections and apply a fresh layer of sprayed concrete. ÖBB has stressed that these fixes are vital for the tunnel's long-term stability and safe operation.

Long-distance trains will take a different route via a new line, skipping Jenbach station entirely. Some regional stops will either be cancelled or replaced by diversions. To help affected travellers, ÖBB will run replacement bus services, including routes between Brixlegg and Wörgl, as well as on other impacted sections. The work is scheduled to finish by April 7, with normal train services expected to resume the same day.

The closure will disrupt travel plans for many passengers, but ÖBB has put measures in place to limit inconvenience. Once complete, the repairs will ensure the tunnel remains safe and reliable for future use.
