The regional association has decided to keep all 35 RegioBus lines in operation, maintaining roughly 1,500 weekday trips. These routes cross district boundaries and connect towns such as Braunschweig, Wolfenbüttel, Vechelde, and Bad Harzburg. The decision follows earlier plans to reduce services as part of cost-saving efforts. RegioBus lines currently run across multiple districts and cities, with funding based on a levy system. Line 420, for example, links Braunschweig and Wolfenbüttel, stopping at Schöppenstedt, Cremlingen, and Sickte. Other routes serve locations like Wendeburg, Groß Schwülper, and Sankt Andreasberg.
Operating the entire network costs about €116 million annually. To address funding challenges, a uniform financing framework will be introduced in 2027. Under this new system, deficits will be shared jointly by the state, districts, and cities.
The regional association will also conduct regular reviews of the services. These assessments may lead to adjustments in route layouts to better meet demand. All existing RegioBus lines will remain active for now, ensuring continued transport links across the region. The shift to a shared funding model aims to stabilise financing from 2027 onwards. Reviews will help shape the network’s future development.
