Rheinisch-Bergisch District Unveils Ambitious Plan for 49 New Mobility Hubs
The Rheinisch-Bergisch District has published a detailed plan for mobility hubs. The study identifies 49 stops as suitable for conversion and outlines upgrades for existing sites. It also proposes new locations for future development. An analysis was carried out to assess the potential of current and new mobility hubs. Out of 19 existing hubs, 13 were found to need improvements such as more bike lockers or expanded bicycle parking. Another 20 sites were classified as prospective hubs for future planning phases.
Detailed fact sheets were prepared for 29 of these locations. Each includes site plans, amenity recommendations, and cost estimates. The findings will be incorporated into the ongoing revision of the local public transport plan.
The study confirmed the success of the current collaboration between municipalities, transport companies, and the district administration. It also highlighted opportunities for mobility solutions in commercial zones and other development areas. The administration has now been tasked with working alongside municipalities to prepare a framework application for funding through go.Rheinland. The plan aims to upgrade existing hubs and support demand-driven expansion at new sites. The refined concept will guide future improvements to the district’s transport network. Funding applications will help turn these proposals into reality.
